About My Business:

The KIRC Foundation is an NGO based in Elmina that was established in 2008 and officially registered in 2010 for the purpose of carrying out Health and Education Projects. It targets women, children and youths as it believes they are the most vulnerable. The NGO currently championing the shift of education from the 18th Century to the 21st Century.Through the establishment of a community computer center, the encouragement of early parental involvement, and two simple, inexpensive changes in the way we teach reading and mathematics, we will create a paradigm shift to move Education out of the 19th and into the 21st Century. The NGO also uses culture (drumming and dancing) and sometimes soccer as a medium to provide health education- the health education/outreach is preceded by a cultural display/musical presentation. The sounds of drums and the aesthetic steps of the dancers attract the general public to the performance space. After the play, an open forum is created to enable for questions & answers sessions. The approach used, called “Culture for Development” is a dramatic theater that goes to the people and present current health issues (Malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS etc.) with the intent to raise the consciousness of the audience and to stimulate participation and decision and to encourage the community to act. Simply, it presents the issue in an entertaining fashion thus making it easier to understand and to discuss. Another approach, "Soccer for Development" is used to educate people-a football match (soccer) is organized, after which the spectators are engaged in health talks.
