About My Business:

Are you looking dynamic sets and custom scenery? Whether you are looking for a simple but elegant prop or an elaborate interactive display, we’ve got the expertise and knowledge to bring your ideas to reality. The Great Northern Way Scene Shop is a professional scene shop that builds custom scenery and art for professional and emerging artists in Vancouver and the lower-mainland. The Great Northern Way Scene Shop has been operating since 2003 and has become a pillar of the local arts scene. Since its inception, over 100 sets and art projects have been created, with our work traveling across the lower-mainland, across the province, across Canada, to the US, Mexico, UK, Italy, and Germany. The Scene Shop builds for many of Vancouver’s prominent cultural organizations including: Vancouver Opera, Bard on the Beach, Vancouver Art Gallery, Royal City Musical, PuSH Festival, Richmond Gateway, Touchstone Theatre, The Electric Company, Holy Body Tattoo, Mascal Dance, Headlines Theatre, Mortal Coil Performance, Full Circle Performance. With 6000 square feet of open shop and paint/fit up area (30’ ceilings), full metal fabrication (steel and aluminum), and a large roster of professional scenic artisans and crafts people, the Great Northern Way Scene Shop is capable of tackling any design that can be imagined (and then some.) It is our mandate to create a creative space and professional manufacturing facility where we can keep the cost of artistic productions down by sharing common resources and materials while increasing production values; while remaining accessible to local and emerging artists. Aside from our custom manufacturing, the Great Northern Way Scene Shop provides production support for live load and art rigging; technical production support for art installations and live events; technical direction and project management for cultural events and artistic installations. We have a large roster of independent professional production specialists who are capable of realizing the grandest visions from the humblest origins. Recent work includes Plaza, at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Off Site (Shangri-la Hotel), CODE Live (Vancouver 2010), BC Media Centre (Vancouver 2010), Samsung Gala Dinner (ODC Portables/ Vancouver 2010) and Brighton Beach Memoirs at the Richmond Gateway Theatre.
