I have always opted on knowing more by learning more & wherever possible I have listened closely to what’s been discussed & tried to figure out the logic of discussions & decisions. I have learnt how to sequence a project through its stages; initiation, planning, execution, monitor/control & closeout of project & procurement. The most important part for a project manager is to set up a system that will fulfill the projects objectives by integrating all the projects knowledge areas through these phases: 1. Identify & understand project objectives, scope & resources. 2. Break down & estimate man-hours required to execute the identified scope. 3. Estimate the Manpower required completing the project, on time, cost & quality. 4. Prepare scope baseline, based on the project charter, work break down structure & scope statement. 5. Prepare project schedule baseline, based on the project charter information; dates of initiation & completion. 6. Prepare cost baseline based the project charter information & the work break down structure. The above mentioned baselines are important to be able to monitor & control project scope, time & cost, this will be achieved by monitoring & controlling cost by controlling time, controlling time by controlling scope, resources, deliverables & interfaces. Project Control Sequence & purpose of planning, execution, monitor & control: • Collect Requirements • Define Scope • Create Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) • Define Activities • Sequence Activities • Estimate Activity Resources • Estimate Activity Durations • Develop Schedule & Critical Path • Estimate Activity Costs • Determine Budget
