January 1, 2017 Subject: Michael Manley, aka Mikael To Promoters , Agents : Mikael is a professional and accomplished guitarist whose love for music began at an early age when he started with formal guitar training in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, a place he has loved and never forgotten. He later enrolled in Howard University, where he mastered his skills and talent. While at Howard, Mikael received a call from the legendary Walter “Clyde” Orange, and without an audition, was asked to become a member of the legendary Commodores. It was not long before Mikael became their lead guitarist, a position he held from 1995 -2005. During his ten year tenure with the Commodores, Mikael was requested by Clyde to not only showcase his talents, but to write music for the group as well. While touring with the Commodores, Mikael shared a live stage with such performers as Mya, Silk, Glenn Lewis, Gladys Knight, Isaac Hayes, and a host of others. Mikael appeared on the Lou Rawls Telethon with Stevie Wonder, Ashford & Simpson, and Brian McKnight. On the international stage (including a tour of Japan), Mikael shared the stage with Boyz II Men, Diana Ross, and the Temptations. Before working with the Commodores, Mikael collaborated with Frank Cornelius of the Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose. The groups’ single, “Fat Bottom Girls,” was a regular hit on Black Entertainment Television (BET). Always in good company, Mikael studied and collaborated with Walter “Junie” Morrison, original keyboardist and lead vocalist for the Ohio Players. In the mid-1980’s, Mikael’s single, “It Must Be Nice,” made it to the top 20 in the Miami market and was featured on the hit television show, “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”. After a near fatal automobile accident, sustaining injuries to his neck, spine, and fingers; Mikael had surgery and worked hard to recover. In 2007, he released his first solo album, “In Ya Pocket”. This album showcased the never-ending timeline of a unique blend of jazz, rhythm, blues, and a touch of reggae by Mikael. Two songs, from this CD ended up as background music for the “Weather Channel”; “Mi Latinos”, and “Mo Better”. On October 1st, 2015, Mikael released his second solo album, “Grooveology (Prelude), and that is when his feature arrangement of “Highway 105”, climbed immediately into the Top 50 Smooth Jazz charts as well as the Smooth Jazz MediaBase charts. “Highway 105” continued to make it into Top Ten charts on radio stations around the globe. Billboard station, KJZY, had this song featured at #1 for weeks. SmoothJazzBoston also had this song featured in their Top 5 charts for months as well as the, out of Canada. His latest CD, “Grooveology (The Finale)” hit the market on August 16, 2016 and is receiving rave reviews from Program Directors and fans around the globe. Mikael’s music is now being played in the UK, Scotland, Canada, Italy, Austria, Australia, France, Germany as well as Africa, and the USA, while the list of countries continue to grow. Some of the accolades Mikael have received come from, Jeff Moses, WJMX-DB SmoothJazzBoston, who stated “His music is both brilliant as well as stellar”. Sandy Shore, founder and CEO of, remarked that “His music is flawless”. Paul Mac, of PhaseGlobalRadio, in Sidney, AU, exclaimed that “His music is “Sensational, wow”. These are just a few of the praises Mikael has been bestowed. Although Mikael has traveled extensively in many countries while on tour with the Commodores, he has never forgotten the people that he grew up with in Dayton, OH. This was the place where he studied and learned from watching and listening to experienced musicians so that he could hone in his skills on a guitar he had been given for Christmas. Mikael and other musicians from the area formed a group that worked in many clubs and other venues in Dayton. To this day, he still stays in touch with some of the living members. Over the years, Mikael has earned great respect from those who watched his career grow. Many former colleagues/school chums, reach out to praise him on Facebook, and when he comes home to visit with his mother, word spreads about the neighborhood and he finds many good memories knocking on the door. Because of the legacy of music Mikael has created and continues, I believe Mikael would be an excellent candidate for future performing dates in 2017. Sincerely, Mikael email info.
