About My Business:

DANISH CONTRACTING COMPANY WITH AN INTERNATIONAL PROFILE Pihl is one of Denmark’s oldest contracting companies ranking number 116 among the world’s 225 largest contracting companies working on the international markets. The company’s many activities in Denmark and abroad are coordinated between the head office in Kgs. Lyngby, subsidiaries and consortiums. We are working on a project-oriented basis with a flexible structure facilitating the opportunity for the individual employee to develop himself/herself and to assume new responsibilities. Pihl is currently working in 16 different countries and has approx. 3,300 employees. THE CORNERSTONE OF PIHL The cornerstone of Pihl - one of Denmark's oldest contracting companies - was laid by master builder Lauritz Emil Pihl, who in 1887 was licensed as a master builder in Copenhagen, and in the following years built up one of the leading construction companies in the capital. In 1916, his son, Carl, joined the company, which was later to carry the name of E. Pihl & Søn. From bricklaying firm to engineering company However, it was Kay Langvad, Master of Science in civil engineering, who carried the company forward to new challenges. Kay Langvad had more than twenty years' experience from demanding engineering tasks in Denmark as well as abroad, among others he headed the construction of the world's first geothermal district heating plant in Iceland's capital, Reykjavik, in the 1940's. After his purchase of half of E. Pihl & Søn A.S. in 1947, Pihl took on large civil engineering projects in Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Internationalisation, growth and flexibility Kay Langvad’s pioneer work in the 1950’s and 1960’s formed the basis of the internationalisation and growth which has accelerated considerably throughout the last decades under the management of his son, Søren Langvad. Thanks to many years’ experience, Pihl has acquired many different professional skills, and we are still aiming at offering diversified know-how. This is reflected in the company’s organisation, which is flexible, and where a team of employees with the relevant experience is put together for each new project. THE JOY OF CREATING Pihl is well aware that our company’s basis of existence depends on our ability to fulfil some of society’s needs in a responsible, social-minded and qualitative way. Pihl culture Our basic values, the engineering profession and traditional Danish building techniques, form the basis of Pihl’s corporate culture that has been developed ever since its foundation. The ability to solve complex tasks, the will to ensure that projects are carried out on time, and the commitment to combine the responsibility for the tasks with the overall objectives of the company are fundamental for Pihl. Binding words The joy of creating implies professional curiosity and competence but also the ability and desire to co-operate crossing professional boundaries as well as the desire to lead and assume responsibilities. Pihl is proud of its profession, and we show respect for that of others. The Joy of Creating is the identity of our company. Adaptability Pihl is a Danish contracting company working on an international market with keen competition. Our overseas projects challenge the adaptability of our employees; and whether we are working on the construction of a museum in Liverpool or on a water supply project in Sri Lanka we make an effort to pass on our knowledge and also to improve our own skills.
