About My Business:

Known as “Amaury The Pianist”, but born Amaury Sanchez Figueredo, on October 04, 1978 in Havana, Cuba, where he commenced his music education at the age of 15, when most music students start 10 years earlier than him. It was considered a late start and though Amaury kept in secret his piano lessons, it triggered sarcastic jokes by neighbours, some family members and friends, who positively believed success was remotely far from being achieved. His first classes were taken with a private teacher from his neighbourhood. There, he learned the rudiments of music. Amaury was first placed in front of a piano by his private teacher to be taught about the different sound registers, the middle C and the precise amount of keys on the instrument. Amaury was eagerly waiting for the keys physical contact moment to come, after a long period of learning to name and write clefts and notes on manuscript paper, he could not longer wait to match what was written on papers to the keys. While standing next to the teacher and in front of the piano, the teacher talked about several aspects, but only one caused a great impact on Amaury. When he was told the piano has 88 keys, he got spaced out and thought learning to play piano would be a challenging task, but succeeding would be even harder, there was only one thing in his mind “Too many keys for only ten fingers” knowing his music progress was under close judgemental surveillance. He feared failure for a long time. He did not want to let down his mother, who supported his music interest, while his father did not approve it at all. Music became priority for him, ruling his life and consuming most of his time practising over and over every material covered in class. At first he treated it like a task, a responsibility, a demonstration to those that mocked him down, until the love for the music emerged leading fully the interest for it. His persistency sooner showed a noticeable and rapidly progress, which increased his confidence his ambition and eagerness to fumble around books for new music pieces to play, yet doing beginner exercises such scales. Amaury kept completely focus on his music studies, he continued progressing greatly, later he decided to pursued a full-time music studies. He communicated the idea to his mother and she helped him out on choosing a public music school. The New school was called Cervantes and the music program involved more material than his private teacher. In one of the classes, he was introduced to a large number of classical composers-performers, which he performed songs of such Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin and some classical Cuban composers-performers as well such Ernesto Lecuona, Saumel and others. His obedient discipline on his studies gave him great results and allowed him to performed challenging pieces from his favourite classical Cuban composer-performer, Ernesto Lecuona. Amaury played a few challenging pieces of his such “Here Comes The Chinese Man”, “Danza Negra” and “La Comparsa”. Which made him felt very accomplished at that time. 2000 was a year that brought significant changes to Amaury's music education. His first year in Toronto, Canada was fully spent on learning English, to present himself to admission tests to continue his music education in Canada, which later would turned into his future country, however, this time the music studies had a bigger challenge. They were in a new language and a different and completely new music genre to him. He was accepted at the music school and commenced his studies in 2001. Amaury a classically trained pianist today, with a degree in Jazz, which he acquired at The Humber College Jazz Music Program. Once his music education was completed at Humber College, Amaury registered to the (BCOU) British Columbia Open University, where he obtained his music degree. While attending at The Humber Jazz Music Program, Amaury was introduced to internationally renowned American Jazz pianist, Barry Harris, who awakened Amaury to Jazz music theory, its arrangement and the language of jazz “Bebop”. Amaury knew Barry was a priceless and valuable source of music knowledge that could have a significant impact in his music career, therefore, being a student of a such music living legend, became Amaury's main target at that time. Amaury claims today that Barry Harris is one of the key influences in his career. Amaury completed his music education and performed in many venues in Canada, offering the audience what they want to hear and what he learned over the years at different schools, he attended and the private teachers he studied with. He continues performing, furthermore, re-arranging classics with his unique style and writing and fully producing his own music.
