About My Business:


CGMHS has been in existence since 1919 and serves the areas of Central Gauteng. It is a registered non-profit organization (NPO 001-036) providing vital services to children and adults, with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities, and those experiencing life crises. Our vision: “Changing Attitudes, Changing Lives” Our mission: Reduce prejudice and misunderstanding regarding mental disability; Render support in communities through a range of psychosocial services; Advocate to improve mental health care services. Our objectives: To improve the knowledge of the general community and health professionals and encourage accurate and responsible reporting of mental illness in the media; To provide services including accommodation, income generation, vocational and self - development opportunities, support networks, social services and recreational opportunities for people with mental disability and/or physical disability; To lobby for access to improved mental health care services, the most effective treatment and improved continuity of care; To facilitate self-advocacy and empowerment of persons with mental disability. CGMHS’s head office is in Johannesburg (South Africa) and has decentralised offices serving the Ekurhuleni and West Rand regions. Specialised project includes: Gordonia Services, a psychosocial rehabilitation centre and group homes for adults with severe mental health disorders, situated in Johannesburg; and Tshepong Stimulation Centre for children with severe to profound intellectual disabilities, situated in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni.
