About My Business:


I was born and raised in the Lindsay, Ontario area where I graduated form Lindsay Collegiate & Vocational Institute. I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in the Royal Canadian Military Police (RCMP) and so I enrolled in the Criminology program at Nanaimo University. I still remember the first day of class when one of our professors said, “Off all you who want to be a police officer only one of you in the class will become one if you continue on with your Criminology Degree”. I thought they were joking and continued on I did. They were right and when I left University I was unsure of what I would do or my future. I entered into the workforce in the corporate computer training industry as an instructor. I have always been able to learn software and technology quickly. I used this skill to fast track through the company ranks and eventually got moved to sales. With my understanding of the various training we offered and the ability to communicate it easily I did very well. I continued to move up in the company to sales manager, regional manager and general manager. I learned a lot about marketing, sales, accounting and many of the skills needed to run a business. My grandfather owned Canada’s first speaker manufacturing company, he retired after having many years of success as an entrepreneur. My father and uncle opened there own speaker manufacturing company years later and kept it alive for over 20 years. My mother opened the first animal agency for movies in Canada. To say I have some entrepreneurial influences in my life would be an understatement. I created a web hosting business with the concept in mind that we would be 100% Canadian and help our customers build a great site by providing them advice on where to go and how to do it. This was achievable when we had less then 100 customers but as we grew to be bigger and bigger what I enjoyed about the business was lost. The company was sold in year 7 which had grown from 0 customers to over 10,000. The one thing I learned in business is that what you don’t plan for is what turns out to hurt your business. To avoid that you should surround yourself with others who have a lot of experience with owning businesses so you can learn from their mistakes and stories. f you were to ask me what the most important thing to me is I would tell you my kids. They bring a smile to my face and teach me life lessons which we usually forget. For as long as I can remember I have always been over weight. One of the things that has always worried me is that my own lifestyle will result in my children from following in my foot steps. In 2008 I was almost 400 lbs and was denied life insurance because of my weight. It became clear to me that I would have to make a change in my lifestyle if I wanted to get approved for life insurance and become a positive role model for my kids. I put a plan and process in place to make changes to my life. My plan was to remove small things in my life one at a time which were unhealthy. Less then a year later I had lost 160 lbs and my life style had changed. In 2010 I completed my course and was certified as a Financial Security Advisor.
