About My Business:

J. Richard Gentry, Ph.D., a former university professor and elementary school teacher, is author of Raising Confident Readers: How to Teach Your Child to Read and Write—From Baby to Age 7 (Da Capo Press/Lifelong Books). He is passionate about dispelling the myths surrounding baby/toddler reading and he hopes to help bring back research-based spelling education which he considers crucial for proficient reading and writing in elementary school. Some of Richard’s earlier books include Breakthrough in Beginning Reading and Writing (Scholastic), Step-by-Step Assessment Guide to Code Breaking (Scholastic), Breaking the Code (Heinemann), My Kid Can’t Spell (Heinemann) and The Science of Spelling (Heinemann). In addition he is author of a spelling textbook series, Spelling Connections for grades K-8 (Zaner-Bloser). A new series of books targeting Common Core State Standards for K-6 co-authored with Jan McNeel and Vickie Wallace-Nesler are to be released by Shell Education in June, 2012: Getting to the Core of Writing: Essential Lessons for Every Student [Kindergarten through Grade 6—a seven book series]. Richard blogs for Psychology Today magazine.
