About My Business:


Having obtained his law degree at the University of Lausanne in 2003, Nicolas Capt completed his legal training with a Masters at law in Legal Issues, Crime and Security of Information Technologies, which he passed in the autumn of 2004 with honours (summa cum laude). He also successfully completed a “General course on Intellectual Property” and an “Advanced course in Electronic Commerce and Intellectual Property” at the World Intellectual Property Organisation Academy (WIPO). Experience: From 2004 to 2006, Nicolas Capt acted as legal counsel in charge of advising on, and the drafting of decisions of the Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television (AIEP/UBI) in Berne. Nicolas Capt then completed his legal training with the firm of Loroch, Elkaim & Partners at Lausanne, at the end of which he passed his bar exam in 2008. Over the ensuing four years, he worked as an Associate with two well established commercial law firms: first with Ming Halperin Burger Inaudi, and then with Bonnant Warluzel & Partners. Nicolas Capt lectures at conferences on a regular basis on the subject of media and new technologies; he regularly appears in the national broadcast media and is frequently published in his specialist areas. He is also a co-director and co-author of the Commentary on Federal law Governing Radio and Television, which shall be published by Stämpfli in June 2014. Nicolas Capt is a member of several professional associations including the Geneva Bar Association, the CEDIDAC, the Swiss Press Club and the Swiss Association of Specialized Journalists. Practice Areas: Nicolas Capt provides both advice and acts in all legal issues relating to modern technology as well as the law of broadcasting and the written media in general. He is also particularly active as a defence attorney in criminal matters. His clients mainly come from the corporate world (multinationals, SME’s, start-ups) as well as State or institutional entities. Previous activities : Nicolas Capt took part in the International Human Rights Competition for Lawyers in Caen, 2008, where he defended a case involving Kenneth Foster, who had been condemned to a death sentence for witnessing a crime. The jury, which was presided over by Mrs Françoise Tulkens, vice President of the European Court of Human Right (ECHR), awarded him second prize. A keen advocate, Nicolas Capt introduced and organised in Switzerland, for the Young Bar Association of the Canton of Vaud when he was a committee member, the first Swiss versions (2007 and 2008) of the well established Paris “Conférence Berrier”. He has also participated in, and won, several national and international moot competitions. Finally, Nicolas Capt was the co-organiser and licensee of the first edition (2012) of the TEDxParcDes Bastions, the theme of which was based on the “Eulogy of Doubt”., where participants included the former Chairman of the Bar Association, Marc Bonnant, Mrs Myret Zaki and Mr. Alain Moser
