About My Business:

Oceania House was built in 1887 by George Clunies-Ross to be his family home for generations to come. The house reflects George's tremendous capacity to make his visions come true. He was the third generation of the Clunies-Ross family to govern the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and brought the tiny island and its people prosperity. He studied Engineering in Scotland, designed, brought all the materials thousands of miles by sailboat and undertook the building of his mansion. The house is a testament to his dreams. Lloyd Leist and I (Avril Whyte) have been passionate about the restoration off this wonderful house and have recently made the decision to open the house for accommodation and small events. Our guests have full use of the whole house, including all formal areas and the 'old ballroom'. There is a kitchenette and laundry available for those who wish to cater for themselves, or a variety of traditional Malay meals can be delivered to the door. A supermarket, restaurant and café are also close by. Our upstairs bedrooms are very spacious and elegantly furnished with fine antiques from the Victorian or Edwardian periods providing our guests with a real sense of luxury. Each room has its own private bathroom and Wi-Fi is available also. Cocos Island is a tropical paradise - a coral atoll surrounding a lagoon of a myriad shades of acqua-marine with white sandy beaches, waving palm-trees and a coral reef teeming with the most amazing coloured fish and coral. Cocos Island is a tiny spec in the Indian Ocean, but it has a most romantic and sometimes tragic history and played an important role during two world-wars. For anyone interested in military history or investigating the Colonial way of life, Cocos Island will not let you down. There are a variety of tours available to visitors including: Glass-bottom boat tours, High-Tide Champagne Breakfast Tour, Tours to discover the birdlife, Discovery Tours of West Island taking in 'The Clam Farm' and the 'Big Barge Art Centre' and a Cultural Tour of Home Island where you can meet the local Cocos Malay people and take a look at many of their traditional. arts and crafts. Fishing is there, right outside your door. Oceania House sits on a prominent corner of Home Island and adjacent to the channel to the open sea - a favourite fishing spot. Boats can be chartered for going further afield and some local Home Islands will take you out for fishing trips around the other islands. Cocos Island is truly a fisherman's paradise. We can also offer sailing trips in either a traditional timber sailing craft (Jukong) or you can hire a modern, sleek catamaran for a day. Cocos Island is a unique place, having been isolated from the rest of the world for over a hundred years and yet steeped in its own traditions and world history. We welcome you to take in a visit to Oceania House and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Flights depart from the Perth International Airport flying with Virgin Air (2 flights per week) Please take a look at our website: or Phone 08 9162 6585
