Welcome to PADIN volunteering projects. Our volunteer work is dedicated to empowering the most marginalized communities in Nepal. Our volunteer and internship service programs include women's empowerment, child care at early childhood development centers, orphanages, teaching English in schools & monasteries, health care service, construction and manual work, child rights and education etc. Our Mission: PADIN's mission is to provide volunteers with structured program to facilitate them to make an important contribution to the people (particularly marginalized and underprivileged group) of different parts of Ghana, while gaining an in-depth experience of Ghana’s language and culture that will stay with the volunteers for the rest of their lives. Vision The aim of PADIN is to support the rural poor, especially women and children to realize their full potentials and contribute to sustainable improvement in their lives by facilitating lasting change through capacity building, education, advocacy, networking, partnerships and forming linkages with other organizations that have common vision. About PADIN Pan Africa Development and Intercultural Network (PADIN) is a non-religious, non-political, non-governmental, non-for-profit organization (NGO) which was founded in 2005 by a diverse group drawn from development workers, educationalists, social activists and other professionals. PADIN is officially registered under the Society Act with the District Administration Office Kumasi, and is also affiliated to the Social Welfare Council Kumasi. PADIN focuses on community-based projects involving local volunteers backed up by international volunteers in Africa. Objectives PADIN aims to give people the right tools and knowledge to help themselves. The focus is on helping women and children through special educational programs and community training projects conducted independently and/or in association with like minded organizations. VIN has adopted an integrated community development approach through voluntary services by welcoming overseas and local volunteers. Specific objectives include: PADIN’s provide volunteers with structured program to facilitate them to make an important contribution to the people (particularly marginalized and underprivileged group) of different parts of Ghana, while gaining an in-depth experience of Ghana’s language and culture that will stay with the volunteers for the rest of their lives • To reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS on People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) and the community as a whole. • To reduce extreme poverty and hunger by establishing income generating projects for women and the youth in the rural communities • To educate and work with communities regarding environmental, health and sanitation issues. • To provide trainings and workshops for the community youths to develop life skills in them and create opportunities for self-employment. • To provide language lessons and cultural information for people who come to Ghana to study, conduct research, and do voluntary work. • To introduce volunteers to the richness of Ghana’s culture and ensure a safe and memorable stay in a supportive environment. • To support families and children suffered from armed conflict providing them basic requirements such as food, shelter and education. • To encourage skilled professionals such as doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, entrepreneurs to allocate part of their valuable time to volunteer for the service of the poorer and marginalized people in the society. • To provide Sponsored Education for children from very poor and marginalized families. • To assist with staffing of Village Health Centers. • To support to establish Community Learning Centers (CLC) to provide learning platforms for eliminating illiteracy and developing professional capacity of community people. • To provide basic hygienic skills to the poorest people of Ghana. • To make youths aware of HIV /AIDS and Girl Trafficking and to mobilize them in the campaign. • To equip schools and communities with basic physical infrastructures. • Student travel and working aboard services • Empowerment of women through micro-enterprise as a means of reducing poverty • . Community Based Volunteer Placements Volunteers participating in community based projects will be placed with a host family within the community in which they are working. In addition to receiving food and accommodation, this is also an excellent opportunity for volunteers to immerse themselves in the Nepali community, within a supportive environment, learning about Ghana Ashanti lifestyle, culture and language and sharing their culture in return. PADIN has a number of volunteering opportunities within the rural community, these include: • Women's Empowerment Projects such as women's education; income generation; savings and credits; and health, sanitation and the environment. • Child Care Initiatives such as children's clubs; early childhood development; schooling for conflict victims and orphanage support. • Youth Development Schemes such as a community youth club to develop life skills and English language classes. • Teacher Training and Education, including workshops, seminars and exchange visits. • The Health Program, which mobilises volunteer healthcare professionals to see and treat patients and raise awareness on sanitation issues. • Additional volunteer projects in the community include the establishment of a community learning center; construction and manual work, and environment and agroforestry. Africa Placements Although PADIN's main focus is on development projects within the rural community, PADIN also provides volunteer placement opportunities in monasteries and nunneries. This program helps educate young monks and nuns in conversational English, as well as developing their life skills and providing an opportunity to participate in creative activities. Volunteers are placed in the Africa in which they are teaching, and in addition to receiving food and accommodation, they are also able to witness and gain a fascinating insight into Ashanti practices and rituals.
