Clients I'm Seeking:

People who wish to purchase, build new, build an addition, remodel or restore a home. Also, people who need to learn about the process of planning, designing and building a home by reading my book.

About My Business:

I started my design practice in 1973 and built a portfolio of more than 600 projects in single-family and mufti-family design. Many of these projects have been additions and remodelings as well as historic restorations. I also have many years of community planning experience. I try to design homes that are unique and reflect the tastes and lifestyle of my clients and their families. Although I will design what my clients want/need, if I can suggest a better design solution or application, that is my goal to achieve a better living environment. I do not like to design the same ho-hum styles that have been carbon copied for the past 50 years and dot the architectural landscape in cookie-cutter subdivisions where you can't tell one house from another. I am not trying to design houses; I want to design homes. I don't want to design subdivisions, I want to design livable, walkable, sustainable communities. My specialty of design is "Universal Design for Barrier-Free Living," that is: homes that are accessible and comfortable for all people, whether they have any physical challenges or not. I have won a few design competitions for homes like that. I also design safe rooms, panic rooms and storm shelters, especially in meteorologically vulnerable areas. Most of my work has been in Florida, California and New England, but I have worked in many other areas, including foreign countries. I studied architecture at the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art and much of my work reflects the principles of classical, traditional and vernacular design. In order to learn how homes are constructed, I learned many trades, although I do not practice any of them. While still in high school, I learned to be a framing carpenter and worked for two years as a drywall installer and finisher. I have also worked at laying concrete blocks, bricks, tile, finish carpentry, roofing, flooring, landscaping and other trades. This training has helped me to design homes that are livable, buildable, sustainable, comfortable and beautiful.
