Clients I'm Seeking:

Students Pre-K to Adult who have literacy issues (reading, spelling, writing, comprehension) related to dyslexia or related disorders. Please note...In Pre K, signs of literacy issues would be difficulties in phonological awareness and in Kdg both difficulties in phonological awareness and rapid letter naming.

About My Business:

I am a retired reading specialist. In 2007, I was trained in Orton Gillingham instruction through a Children's Dyslexia Center, which is a program funded by the Masons. In 2008, after a year of training, I received my certification from the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC). I truthfully can say that this program is the missing piece to the reading puzzle. This is the hole that needs to be filled in reading education all across the country! It has become my passion to help students learn to read, spell, and write in a manner that best suits their learning needs. Presently, I teach OG in one on one instruction. I have experience in working with Pre-K students. Group instruction with similar abilities is available A combination of Fundations and Orton Gillingham instruction is used. All letter/sound activities are learned in a specific multisensory fashion. An explicit, structured, sequenced phonological awareness intervention program is included in the instruction. Some students come to me in primary grades not knowing how to recite or write the alphabet. They have had little success in school. With the Orton Gillingham instruction, which is a comprehensive reading program, students start reading and their confidence is boosted. I have also instructed Jr/Sr High students. Some come to me reading 4-6 grades below reading level and we have made great strides...the biggest on being on the faces of the students. In addition to offering OG, students can also receive instruction in a multisensory comprehension intervention program. The instruction is so much more than reading and answering questions. Groups with like needs or individual instruction is available. Upcoming in March 2013, there will be instruction offered for metacognitive comprehension strategies (how they are thinking about what they are reading). Students will be taught each strategy in an I Do, We Do, You Do format. Furthermore, in order to best serve the needs of every student, I continue to train in interventions pertaining to varied reading components as well a what is going on within the schools in regards to Response to Intervention (RTI).
