About My Business:

Roger is one of the most experienced Real Estate Brokers in the Charlottesville, Virginia Real Estate community In fact, Real Estate is in his blood. Roger has been active in the real estate and construction business in the Charlottesville area since he moved here from Montreal in 1977 following graduate school at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (Miami University, Oxford, Ohio) where he specialized in Environmental Design working with Sociologists and Architects. In Montreal, his firm, Organization of Planning Teams International, among other projects were partners with Architect Paolo Soleri in the construction of an experimental city in Arizona called Arcosanti. Roger also represented the Brace Research Institute at the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat) held in Vancouver in 1976. Roger has been the first in many endeavors. He was chosen in the first group of High School Science Students in Cleveland in 1965 to work as an engineer in an experimental program at the National Aeronatics and Space Administration. He was among the very first individuals to live on Charlottesville’s historic Downtown Mall when he moved in 1980 to the first condominium conversion at 107 W. Main St. In those days, the Mall was just beginning but Roger knew this was where he wanted to start his Charlottesville career. At this location, he started Charlottesville’s most successful solar engineering and contracting company, Virginia Solar Contracting Services, following up on his work as an Environmental Planner in Canada and New York. Roger was an exhibitor at the first Solar Energy Industries Association trade show held in Washington in 1977. Roger was also on the Internet as far back as 1978 and was one of the very first brokers to earn the coveted ePro Real Estate designation and was an early member of the Real Estate Cyberspace Society. ePro’s have advanced expertise in using the internet for Real Estate marketing in the service of their clients. Roger’s web page, cvilleproperties.com is one of the oldest real estate web presences in Central Virginia. Since the mid-1980’s, Roger has been active in the Real Estate community helping clients buy and sell properties throughout the Central Virginia region. Roger was again at the forefront when he became the first Real Estate Broker east of the Mississippi to earn the valuable EcoBroker designation from EcoBroker International in Evergreen, Colorado. Again, he became the first to join the locally created Association of Conservation Real Estate, now called CONSERVE. Roger is also the first Real Estate professional in Central Virginia to join the US Green Building Council and is a member of the local Charlottesville chapter. in 2009,  Roger was one of the first, if not first local Broker to complete the rigourous Certified Distresssed Property Expert course (CDPE) and is now trained in the complexities of short sales.  See Roger’s Bio for additional areas of continuing education he has completed. Roger has consistently been RE/MAX Realty Specialists‘ top producer since the company began in the late 1980’s and was selected by RE/MAX International in 2006 to be inducted into the RE/MAX International Hall of Fame. In 2011, Roger earned the coveted LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FROM RE/MAX INTERNATIONAL and will receive his plaque in Las Vegas in March of 2012. Roger spends a large portion of  his career as a Buyer’s Representative for New Home Purchases. Clients seeking environmentally sophisticated homes will find his unique background invaluable. Roger values community and historic preservation and has been renovating, since 1982, his historic 1830’s home called “Moon River” located on the Rivanna River in the Woolen Mills part of town. He is very active in the community as a volunteer serving on the Board of Directors for the Charlottesville Waldorf School’s Building Foundation, the US Green Building Council’s local chapter and is best known for his work as the Coach and GM of the University of Virginia Ice Hockey team leading the Cavaliers to seven ACC championships in fifteen years. Now Roger is co-owner of the beautiful Main Street Arena home to all ice skating and hockey events in Central Virginia. In 2008, Roger was one of only six graduates of the Charlottesville Police Academy, an eleven week course where he worked closely with all the  departments of the Charlottesville Police Force. The Academy is an effort of the Force’s Community Policing Initiative. The following departments were covered: Patrol, Neighborhood  Services, Investigations, Drug Enforcement, Forensics, Gangs, School Resource Officers, Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Traffic, Crime Prevention, 911 Emergency Communications Center, Support and Statistics, Hiring and Accreditation, Administrative Compliance, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, K-9 Operations and Firearms and Lethal Force. Roger most recently completed his Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training and finished Coy Barefoot’s excellent history of UVA and the City of Charlottesville class at Darden Business School.
